"Brand New You"
Put simply, this track is me releasing the insecurities and anxieties that were stirred throughout my time in academia. While I graduated from it with a Bachelor Degree, along with experience within actual ensembles and a deeper understanding of music theory, it was also a dramatic and deeply arresting change of pace for me as a creator. On the surface, the studies I undertook looked to be the perfect opportunity to not just learn how to hone my current craft, but branch out into other, much more important areas of music composition as well, and learn how to market myself and establish a proper career path. The reality was that after four years, it left me unsatisfied, burnt out, and depressed.
On the whole, it was a life experience I still believe I should have gone through, and there were indeed many high points as well as low, but all the same there was an uneasy feeling of being out of place that I couldn't shake throughout my four-year degree. While I don't believe there was malicious intent at all, the academic material seemed geared to completely destroy, or at least distort, any preconceived ideas about music that students went in with. One by one I saw my fellow academic compatriots, who had come from all over the world to fully master their instruments and to actualise their musical identities, slowly molded and shifted into something altogether different, instead of becoming greater and bolder versions of themselves.
The song is told from two perspectives: both the student and the tutor, the latter of whom has much more to say. The chorus is a reflection of the sensation of time flying before the student as they work themselves to the bone attempting to conform to the deeply challenging new ideals and philosophies they are being presented with.

BTSX OST Vol. 1

Absolutely sublime, an essential to any MIDI enthusiast. Vanilla compatible as well. Of course if you don't know, you should play BTSX using a source port of your choice: You can use ZDL to load up source ports and cleanly select multiple pk3s and WADs to run. The interface of ZDL is a bit clunky but, to play BTSX all you would really need to do is drag and drop the WAD to a sourceport exe to launch it. I recommend GZDoom for utility, Woof for authenticity, and DSDA if you're speedy boi.
